The Generac 9200E portable generator is designed to run nearly any type of device or appliance. However, some limits may be breached, causing issues that need attention, including:
Error – AC Output Not Available While Engine is Running
Cause:
The AC output may not work if the circuit breaker is open or there is a problem with the generator. Also, a connected device may be faulty, or the cord not connected well enough. The ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) may be set to “Open” if the generator is equipped with one.
Solution:
Check for any major issues with the generator. Make sure the connected device(s) are working properly and all cords or secure. Reset the circuit breaker if needed and press the reset button on the GFCI receptacle. If these do not work, contact Generac Customer Support.
Error – Engine Runs Poorly Under Load
Cause:
The engine may run poorly when placed under loads or there is a short circuit. The engine speed may be set too low for some reason. A connected device may have a short circuit. The spark arrestor screen may be too dirty and need to be cleaned.
Solution:
Check all connected devices for any problems or short circuits. Remove excess loads and try the generator again. Clean the spark arrestor screen. Review the generator limits section of the user manual. If the problem continues, contact the Generac Customer Support Center.
Error – Engine Fails to Start
Cause:
The engine will not start if the fuel shut-off is set to “Off” or the generator is out of fuel. Air ventilation may be poor as well or the air filter is dirty. The spark plug wire may not be connected or it is faulty and needs to be replaced.
The engine will not start if the oil is too low, the fuel mixture is too rich, or the choke or intake valve is stuck in the wrong position. The fuel may be old or stale.
Solution:
Drain the fuel tank if the fuel is old and refill it with fresh fuel. Make sure the fuel mixture is not too rich. Check the oil level and fill it to the proper level. Inspect the spark plug and reconnect the cord if needed. Replace the spark plug if it is not working properly or is broken.
Set the choke to the no-choke position and turn the fuel shut-off to “On”. Place the generator on a smooth, flat surface and make sure it is not flooded before starting it. If the problem continues, contact the Generac Customer Support Center.
Error – Engine Shuts Down During Operation
Cause:
The engine will shut down if it runs out of fuel if the carbon monoxide level gets too high causing the C0sense to shut off (red light blinking) or if there is a system fault causing the C0sense to shut off (yellow light blinking). The oil level may be too low.
Solution:
Fill the fuel tank and raise the oil level. Move the generator to a well-ventilated open area. If used indoors, make sure the doors and windows are open. If the yellow light blinks when the generator shuts off, contact Generac Customer Support.
Error – Engine Runs But Will Not Shut Down
Cause:
The engine will not shut down even when the power button is pushed if the ignition button is faulty or the battery is too low.
Solution:
Press the emergency stop switch and replace or recharge the battery. If the ignition button continues to not work, contact the Generac Support Center.
Error – The Engine Lacks Power
Cause:
The engine may not produce enough power if the air filter is dirty, the unit is overloaded by connections, the spark arrestor is clogged, or the engine needs servicing.
Solution:
Clean or replace the air filter and try the generator again. Disconnect excess devices from the unit and clean the spark arrestor screen if this does not work. Review “Know Generator Limits” in the user’s manual.
Error – The Engine Surges
Cause:
The engine will surge if the carburetor is running too rich or too lean or if the choke is opened too early.
Solution:
Move the choke to the halfway position and try again. If the engine keeps surging, contact the Generac Customer Support Center.
Error – Engine Starts But Immediately Shuts Off
Cause:
The engine will start but then shut off immediately if the COsense shuts off due to too much carbon monoxide. This will appear as a red light blinking on the panel badge.
Solution:
Move the generator to an open area with good ventilation. If the yellow continues blinking when/if the generator shuts off, contact the Generac Customer Support Center. Follow all safety instructions.
If any additional problems arise, contact the helpline.
